Saint Drogo is one of about five Catholic Saints responsible for healing or comforting the deaf. He was a Flemish man of no particular standing who felt intense guilt over the death of his mother during childbirth. I prefer his myth above the other Patrons of the Deaf because his is the most literary- more interesting than naming some Bishop a saint because that's what you do. I am often overwhelmed by noise and would like, if not to be deaf, than to at least be less affected by sound, to take it less personally.

Thigmophilia is the love of touch. And I am a lonely, sad little girl who wants to be snuggled.

So that's all. Well, not all of them but it's the interesting ones.

Ethel Eichelberger was a low-key, mainstream drag queen and a wonderful entertainer. He was a member of the Encyclopedia comedy troupe that did the Encyclopedia TV show on HBO in the late 80's. And like so many talented people did in those days, he died of AIDS.

Hemp-flavored gummies are just what they sound like- sanded gelatin 'spice drops' with a very green flavor. They are something I coveted and ate only because I lived in Vermont and I thought it would add to my 'experience of Vermont'. I have a taste for them even though they do not strictly taste very good. Like how I miss Vermont, even though I have been happier elsewhere.

I Wonder If You're Bored Yet
Girls With Big Noses fits alongside my Boys With Big Foreheads interest. I am more likely to find a woman with a small, pert nose (like mine) ugly and more likely to find girls with acquiline, knobby or dewdrop noses very attractive.

Names Of Paint Colors interest me because naming paint (usually household paint, since real paint tends to be named very serious things like Phthalo Violet rather than Angry Parakeet or whatever) puts language to such evocative use. I also enjoy that the name is someone's job- either the job of the mixer himself or of advertising people.

Gonna Combine Two
Boys with big foreheads mostly relates to my odd taste in men. I've never been able to say I have a certain type, but if you lined all my loves up side-to-side you might notice some similarities. Speech impediments and accents also feature heavily. And crooked, white teeth.

Dario Grandinetti is the George Cloony of Argentina, and I don't understand why I'm the only person who lists him as an interest. He is a fine, deep actor who would be winning Oscars if he chose to learn English. He has the seriousness of Laurence Olivier but much more passion, less cerebral than Olivier ever was. He was in films like Hable Con Ella(talk to her), and Palabras Encadenadas(the killing words).

First Post
Amyl Acetate is banana oil. My interest in it relates to my continued effort to enjoy scents and aromas. I've posted in my regular journal that my sense of smell both overwhelms me and disappoints me with its obtuseness. I am trying to find the pleasure in scents that repulse me, since so many things repulse me that other people find attractive. All flower smells, pine, patchouli, musk, etc. Amyl Acetate is way up there on the list, but I'm doing my best to appreciate it.

i have plenty of my own interests of awesome singular-ness, in case y'all interested...

DryaUnda's introduction, and unique interests
Hello, I found this community while looking for niche interests to add. So far, I have six unique interests -- eight, if you count futures that never happened and democratic transhumanism.

Of my unique interests, algopsychology, Xing La, and wuggies are what have been so far described.

Hm!
I have just discovered that the music genre of electrometal is not featured on anyone's interests. Except for mine now. Join me in the creation of greater audio worlds!

Peril
I am the only person on LJ with "just a little peril" on my interest list. Really, it amazes me that someone else hasn't thought to add it.

For those who aren't Pythonophiles, in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Galahad finds a castle full of young virgins who want him to punish them with spankings and oral sex, only to be "rescued" by Lancelot. Galahad then pleads with him to let him face "just a little peril".

I was the first person on Livejournal to have "unusual interests" as an interest, and it remained that way for quite some time.  I believe liz_bathory was second.

Iron Wolf and Tungsten Cat
From the book by Richard Adams comes the idea of the Iron Wolf, a son of Fenris and a creature of strength, honor, dedication, and bindings. Yes, bindings: don't make an agreement with him if you cannot accept the consequences.

But then, what counterpoint does this creature have?

The reason that tungsten has a W for its atomic symbol is because of the tungsten-bearing mineral wolframite. In fact, in many languages, the proper name for the element is "wolfram" or some variation thereon.

Thus the mental progression: Iron Wolf, Wolfram, Tungsten. But what creature would be appropriate for tungsten? It is a metal like iron, but one which can be drawn into an extremely fine wire. Perhaps a cat!

And so the pair go about their tasks, creatures of different metals (and mettles) ensuring the world moves as it should.

Of course, the siblings Wolfram and Cobalt would smile indulgently at that. But they're used to plays on their names, much as their names were plays on other names.

Hey, it's me again! Time to share a few of those rare interests with ya. :) Yay!

adult harry potter fans - Harry Potter fans who aren't little kids and can thus properly appreciate the magnificence that is Harry Potter. Not to mention the magnificence that is Daniel Radcliffe, Harry Potter Actor Guy.

angsty!harry - Harry Potter when he's angsty! Oh I love that just oodles. I wrote a couple angsty!harry fanfics... they're embarrassing but you can find them through links through my journal, through my website. Book five. Brilliant, brilliant angsty!harry. Harry was so reliably angsty it felt as if that book had been written just for me...

barry watson - hot, hot, actor. Here's a picture of him. He plays Matt on 7th Heaven, he's not on there all the time, but when he is, I will always watch it. Mmmmm yes. And he's been angsty lately too, on the show... ohhhhh yes, angsty pretty...

being open minded - closed-minded people suck. So I always consider all sides of an issue. Even if Republicans bring them up... I happen to disagree with them all the time, but I do stretch myself to at least see their point of view, even if it isn't mine.

blaise zabini - Slytherin character from Harry Potter whose gender is not specified. Heehee. I say he is the Slytherin boy in book five with blonde hair who could see the thestrals. Oh yes that is zabini.

Well, that's enough for now. More later on!

Hey, I'm Kate, I joined here a few days ago.

Now, unique & rare interests. I have lots and lots of them. Let's start with the totally unique ones:

elijah wood's laugh
Most people find it obnoxious. I find it charmingly so. "Ho! Ho! Ho!" Much like Santa Claus, actually.

getting invited places
What is better than getting invited someplace? Makes you feel really loved. And gets you out of the house. What could possibly be better?

hoarding my money
I really don't know why no one else has this interest. What is more satisfying than watching your amount of money you have go up and up and up? Than your big complaint in life is "All my money is in twenties"? Knowing if you ever really want something expensive you can buy it on the spot?

sam and rosie's love
Okay, RotK. Sam & Rosie's wedding. They are just THE best couple I have ever seen. Seriously. They are just pure happiness there. Theirloveissopure!

that slow-mo matrix action!
Uber loads of fun. Excellent to try to imitate, often falling over in the process of imitating.

Rare interests I shall talk about another day.

Later,
Kate the Great

Wee, first post!
Artistic boys/Cute boys in drag - Oh, what is there even to explain about this? Guys, especially the slightly feminine ones, look really gorgeous if they can pull off girl clothing. XD The categories overlap. Yes, I am obsessive. Shove off. ;-p

Boat chases: So rock harder than car chases. Like, in The Italian Job! Speedboats zipping about in Venice. That’s just awesome!!

Button-up shirts: There is honestly nothing better than a good, comfy button up shirt. Never.

Cien Mexicanos Dijeron! - “100 Mexicans Said” Mexican Family Feud, pretty much, with a host that looks like a dark haired Ken doll. Bloody hilarious.

Being moody: I am an angsty teenager...enough said.

Kraft Macaroni and Cheese: mmmm.....cheesy. How can you not love Kraft mac and cheese, with it’s fake powedery cheese and the soggy noodles that stick together....yum!

power techno
to feel the power, throbbing, pulsing
even now to feel the power
know the motion

dance

direct emotion built right in
point me to the shining thing
know the energy

feel

... because I think 'power' rock isn't really about power chords but about power emotion, and therefore 'power' techno should be a real category as categorists define musical theory.

Just a few of my rarities
I listed my unique interests the other day, and since I don't have anything better to do, here are some of my rare interests:

- Being bitten
- Being objective
- Bloody steak (oh, it's so much tastier when you don't cook it! Don't knock it til you've tried it!)
- Drambuie (if you don't know, it's a thick, syrupy liqeur)
- Geekery
- Human pillows
- Natura Morta (webcomic by abril)
- Pink ribbon scars (both a line from Today by Smashing Pumpkins and a fascination with my healing scars - they really do look like pink ribbons!)
- Vampire fetish *blushes*
- Walking barefoot
- Your Wings Are Mine (beautiful shounen ai webcomic by Aoi Hayashi)

...and now I'm bored again. *sigh*
